HML stands for high, medium and low which are three different types of writing styles.
When to use high style:
Believe it or not almost everybody has probably heard of or even read a piece of high style writing. The most common high style writing would be something like the Holy Bible. It uses big words, perfect grammar and professional format. It sounds very educated, but would not be used for an essay or college application. The easiest way to remember high style writing is to remember something very fancy and high class such as a guy wearing a suit and tie.
When to use middle style:
Middle style is mostly used when you are writing an essay. You want it to sound professional but not so professional that you are using huge words that nobody else understands. It should also have good grammar, spelling and format. The best way to remember middle style writing would be to think of somebody just wearing comfy clothes such as sweatpants.

When to use low style:
Low style writing is used more than any other type of writing, especially in the past 5 years. As technology is starting to advance, almost everybody texts as their form of quick communication. Most people use slang and abbreviations to spell words and they almost never use proper punctuation or maybe no punctuation at all. It can be hard to understand and would make you look very uneducated if you used it in a college application or even just an email to your teacher. The best way to remember this style of writing is to think of somebody that dresses more poor.
